Community Day – Women Making History

Join us in celebrating the opening of the exhibition Just to Live is Holy: Women Religious and a Tradition of Art, Faith and Justice and Smithsonian Day Live. This year’s theme is “Women Making History”.

Visitors will enjoy:

  • Staff and docent-led tours of the exhibit Just to Live is Holy
  • “Women of Dubuque” portrait project pop-up exhibit in the Museum Lobby
  • Viewing and celebrating the new outdoor sculpture Irene
  • Viewing and celebrating community mural project, created by Little Luxuries and artist Chelsea Tapia

Museum Day Live!

Free Admission on September 23, 2017, with a Downloadable Museum Day Live! Ticket

The Mathias Ham House and the Dubuque Museum of Art will open their doors free of charge on Saturday, September 23, 2017, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s thirteenth annual Museum Day Live!, an initiative in which participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! Ticket.

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the Dubuque Museum of Art will be open from 1 – 4 p.m. and the Mathias Ham House Historic Site will be open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at both the Mathias Ham House and the Dubuque Museum of Art on September 23, 2017.
