Exhibitions + Collections
Presenting and caring for works of art while creating opportunities to experience established, emerging and regional artists.
We believe a museum should be more than a place you visit. It should be a place you choose, return to, and feel part of, shaping a deeper connection over time.
Rooted in a long history of supporting artists and bringing meaningful art experiences to our community, DuMA is also looking forward, rethinking what a museum can be and creating more ways for people to experience, discuss and connect through art.
We create engaging art experiences that excite, inspire, and connect our community.
Our community will be a thriving cultural hub where people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives together achieve a deep understanding of the past, an empathetic view of the present, and an inspired outlook for the future.
Art has the power to change lives.
Our actions are guided by trust, integrity, respect, and accountability.
We adhere to professional ethics and museum standards in all operations and maintain a high standard of artistic excellence.
We cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships to advance the role of the arts within our community.
We seek to be inclusive of diverse communities, cultures, and ideas.
We support and bring recognition to artists in our region.
Art is at the center of DuMA, but the experience extends far beyond what hangs on the walls.
Through exhibitions, collections, educational experiences, community programs, events and partnerships, DuMA creates opportunities to encounter art from new perspectives and connect with the people and ideas around it.
DuMA sees itself as part of Dubuque’s cultural fabric, not separate from it.
We believe art can create conversation, encourage reflection, introduce new perspectives and strengthen connections between people. That’s why we’re building a museum experience centered not only on what people see, but on what they discover, discuss and experience together.
DuMA extends beyond the building and into the city, the community and everyday life. It is a shared space for curiosity, conversation and belonging.
The Dubuque Museum of Art is a nonprofit organization made possible through the support of members, donors, volunteers, community partners and visitors who believe art has an important role to play in Dubuque and the region.
That support allows DuMA to care for its collection, champion artists, create exhibitions and educational experiences, develop community programming and make meaningful encounters with art available to more people.
DuMA is evolving alongside the community it serves.
We carry forward a legacy of curatorial quality while creating new ways for people to experience it. We’re rethinking what a museum looks like, feels like and offers, creating a place that invites curiosity instead of requiring expertise and encourages participation rather than observation alone.
What comes next for DuMA is bigger than a building. It is a collective step forward, with our community at the center.
