Title: A Blackfoot Travios, plate #637

Interesting fact about the Photographer: Although he was restricted from photographing the event, Curtis and his companion, George Bird Grinnell, witnessed the last Sun Dance ritual ever preformed. In 1900, The Religious Crimes Code was put into action by the Christian Missionaries, who believed that Native American rituals were pagan and uncivilized. (from: Makepeace, Anne. Edward S.
