About the Artist: Parsons was a post-impressionist Santa Fe landscape painter. He studied at the National Academy of Art and Design in New York with William Merritt Chase. He was a New York portrait painter of national celebrities between 1895 and 1912. After the death of his wife in 1913, Parsons moved to Santa Fe and became one of the earliest resident artists. In 1918, he became the first director of the Museum of New Mexico. Common subject matters for Parsons included: town plazas, Native American villages, desert scenes, and mountains.
