About the Artist: Corn Shocks was given to Pauline Phelps (Trask), a student of Grant Woods at the Stone City Art Colony. Wood gave Phelps this painting because of the hard work and talent she showed in his class. Grant Wood created his own art school around 1933. Many students such as Phelps, became quite successful in art communities, going on to teach and create art themselves after graduation.
