About
The Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA), in collaboration with DBQ Pride, invites the community to a documentary screening and virtual conversation on Sunday, January 18th, from 4–6 pm, at the Dubuque Museum of Art in the Millwork District (1000 Jackson Street, suite 105, Dubuque, IA). The program will feature Mexican artist and documentary producer Hugo Ximello-Salido in a live virtual conversation.
Produced by Luminous Art Productions, MUXE: The Language of Art & Culture documents Ximello-Salido’s artistic journey through Oaxaca, México, as he learns about Muxe culture—a fusion of Zapotec traditions and colonial influence where gender fluidity, self-expression, and daily life intersect. Inspired by his early experiences traveling to Oaxaca during a formative period of self-discovery, Ximello-Salido returned years later as an artist, beginning a new journey to learn from, appreciate, and help share the beauty and vitality of the Muxe community through his artistic practice.
MUXE: The Language of Art & Culture is produced by Luminous Art Productions and presented in conjunction with the exhibition Threads of Belonging, co-curated by Dubuque Unidos. Admission is free of charge.
All are welcome, free with pre registration.
