Bio

Jenny Harms Link is a figurative artist based in Asbury, IA. She works primarily in graphite, incorporating elements of fine rendering and linear mark making. The juxtaposition of realism and flat planes lends itself to the often-whimsical subject matter.

Jenny’s work has been exhibited locally in venues such as Gallery C, Quigley Art Gallery, Dubuque Museum of Art, and Dubuque Area Arts Collective. She has also been featured in Her magazine in a series highlighting local artists.

Jenny graduated from Clarke College in 2008 with a BFA in Studio Art. She works in an office by day and creates art by night (or weekend).

Artist Statement

I am employed full time, a mother to two kids, and an art creator. My work artwork explores my feelings and demonstrates the fun that can be found in playing with the picture plane and subject matter.

I am interested in the juxtaposition of smooth rendering and linear mark making. The play between the realistic and simplistic speaks to my sensibilities and challenges me to transition between the two approaches. I have always been drawn to the human figure, and in recent years have also taken gratification in recognizing the whimsy and unabashed wonder that children exude. I wish that would linger a bit longer in life, but attempting to capture that through creativity brings it back for just a little while.

I feel push and pull in all aspects of my life, transitioning between my different roles and what is needed from me. Exploring how various approaches to mark making can work in harmony functions as a parallel to the way I move through the world. And finding joy, fun, and fulfillment in the process isn’t bad either.
