DuMA is proud to host the 25th year of this highly anticipated and celebrated exhibition. The 2024 citywide high school exhibition features two and three dimensional works by students from Dubuque’s three high schools: Senior, Hempstead and Wahlert.
An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 11 from 4-6 PM. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Join us for a virtual exhibition opening and member preview of the new DuMA exhibition, “Portraits of the Pandemic”: An Exhibition of Self-Portraits by Local Artists. We will start our evening with an interview of our Curator and Registrar, Stacy Peterson by Telegraph Herald Features Editor, Megan Gloss. Then we will join “Portraits” artists Lisa Towers, Gregory T. Nelson and Angela Ventris in the Falb Gallery for one on one interviews with Kay Schroeder, Marketing & Engagement Manager.
“Portraits of the Pandemic” is an exhibition of self-portraits made during the pandemic by artists in Dubuque and surrounding counties in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. It also aims to examine how the pandemic and the subsequent effects to our social and physical interactions have reshaped our lives.
“Portraits” opens October 24, 2020 and continues through February 7, 2021

Flow: Journey through the Mississippi River Watershed is an exhibition focusing on themes of water and our personal connection to it. Featuring Libby Reuter and Joshua Rowan of St. Louis, Missouri; Jennifer Bates of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Susan Knight of Omaha, Nebraska; and Anna Metcalfe of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A City at Work: Dubuque Portraits from 1912 is selection of photographs from the Klauer Collection. Both exhibitions open on January 18, 2020 and continue through April 19, 2020.

Reflections: Photography by the Dubuque Camera Club
September 21 – November 10, 2019
The Dubuque Camera Club explores themes of “reflection” in the 7th annual exhibition of photographs by club members. Organized by the Dubuque Museum of Art in conjunction with the Dubuque Camera Club.
Celebrate the work of young Dubuque artists in kindergarten through 8th grade.
Art work will be displayed March 25 – April 14.
Family and guardians of the young artists may see the student work without purchasing museum admission, simply mention you are here to see the K-8 exhibit to the front desk attendant.
Every two years, the Museum exhibits the work of high school artists from all three Dubuque High Schools. Art teachers select the artwork that will be included in the exhibition, while the students both create the art and install it in our gallery.

K-8 Exhibition Features Artwork by Students from All Dubuque Community and Holy Family SchoolsThe DuMA, in collaboration with the Dubuque Community School District and Holy Family Schools, will present the annual All Schools K-8 Student Art Exhibition in March. The exhibition dates are March 22-May 13, 2018.
An opening reception in honor of participating students, parents and teachers will take place on Thursday, March 22 from 5-6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. “The museum has a long commitment to partnering with the schools to display student artwork,” explained David Schmitz, executive director. “It’s very important, both as an arts organization and as a community, that we recognize and celebrate the artistic creativity of our young people.”

Collaborative Exhibition in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District
Explores Immigration from a Personal Perspective
Opening May 26 at Gallery C in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District, Boundary Object: Works by Fidencio Fifield-Perez will bring together an evocative body of work by an emerging voice in the field of contemporary art and Latino/Hispanic culture.
This project represents Fidencio Martinez’s first museum solo exhibition, following the artist’s inclusion in many group and juried exhibitions, including the 2015 Dubuque Museum of Art Biennial exhibition.
The exhibition and related programs are supported, in part, by a grant from Humanities Iowa and sponsorship from Novelty Iron Works. The exhibit is part of an ongoing collaboration between DuMA and Gallery C. In 2016, the two organizations jointly presented Nuevo Arte de Cuba.
An opening reception and artist talk by Fidencio Fifield-Perez will be held at Gallery C on Friday, May 26 from 5:30-8 pm. Fifield-Perez will speak about his experiences, the artistic inspiration behind his work, and method of creating his large-scale installations.
In conjunction with the opening, author and religious scholar Rhonda Miska will present “Not From Around Here: Poetry of Borders, Boundaries and Being.” Miska, the granddaughter of an immigrant, is a candidate with the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin and an interpreter and translator with Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services. Miska is currently writing a chapter about refugees for the forthcoming A Pope Francis Lexicon (Liturgical Press).
The event will also feature Chef Kevin Scharf of Brazen Open Kitchen and special musical guests Eric Balayti & Nathan Jenkins. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
