DuMA’s In the Mind’s Eye (ITME) respite program is committed to improving the quality of life and bringing the joy of art to people living with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.
Participants look at and talk about art, engage in an art activity, and share conversation in a safe and compassionate environment. A typical session involves viewing one or more works in the exhibition followed by an art activity exploring a variety of mediums including clay, pastels, paper or paint.
Maximum: 12 people per session (6 individuals living with dementia and their care partners)
Programs are offered May through October on the second Thursday of the month from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Calling all nature loving photographers!
Randy Richmond, whose photographs are featured in the current exhibition, Subtext and Overstory: Still-life Photography by Randy Richmond, will guide participants in creating a still life photograph from personal objects and natural materials gathered from the Interpretive Center. Discussion will focus on how to develop a personal visual vocabulary as well as the history of still life photography and how it used today.
Supplies required: Please bring a DSLR or point and shoot camera with exposure compensation ability, and a comfortable knowledge of how it works. A tripod is suggested but not mandatory.
Participants are also asked to bring an object that holds personal meaning. The object must not be too small but not too large to be easily carried. Bring a sack lunch to eat.

Toast the beginning of summer with old friends and new artists. Gather in Washington Park for an evening of fashion, craft beer and wine, artful desserts and artist demonstrations inspired by DuMA’s Craft Invitational.
Tickets include Museum admission, all artist talks and demonstrations, music, a Bavarian pretzel from Chew on This food truck, desserts from Pastry by Sandrine, and your choice of a beer flight from Jubeck New World Brewing and Dimensional Brewing, a glass of wine, or a soft drink. Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase from local vendors. AMIDST will offer free digital magazine for event attendees.
This event will take place rain or shine.

Artist Andonia Giannakouros will discuss her large-format paintings featured in the exhibition
Chronicle, on display at DuMA from February 26 – June 12.
Following the 10:30 AM gallery talk Andonia will lead a 60 minute workshop that explores the idea of how one’s collections can be viewed as a self-portrait. Working with pencil, pens, crayons, or markers, participants will transform 3-dimensional collected objects into 2-dimensional drawings. Please bring a collected object that is meaningful to you.
