Interesting fact about the Photographer: It was strangely ironic that J.P Morgan decided to invest $75,000 in Curtis’ project of documenting Native Americans. Morgan was a famous railroad tycoon who wiped out Native American settlements and shot herds of buffalo to make room for his railroads. However, Curtis was at a point in his career where he needed any money he could lay his hands on. With Morgan’s help, he was able to finance his project for five more years. (from: Makepeace, Anne.
