Interesting fact about the Photographer: Edward Curtis’ ambition to continue creating motion pictures after the public failure of his first film set his family life in a downward spiral. Finally realizing that her husband was never going to fully pay off his growing pile of debt, Clara Curtis filed for divorce on October 16, 1916. This news made the headlines in the Seattle Times which read, “After 24 years of married life…Mrs. Clara J. Curtis, wife of Edward S. Curtis, well known Indian photographer, author and friend of the late J.P. Morgan, filed suit for divorce against her husband Friday in the Superior court.” (from: Makepeace, Anne. Edward S. Curtis Coming to Light. Washington D.C.: National Geographic, 2002. p. 133. Print.)
