2016-Oct-16 Cheyenne Maiden by Edward S. Curtis

Artist: Edward S. Curtis (American, 1868-1952)
Title: Cheyenne Maiden, plate #667
Date: n.d.

Medium: Photogravure on Dutch Van Gelder paper
Acquired by: Dubuque Cultural Preservation Committee, an Iowa general partnership, consisting of Dr. Darryl K. Mozena, Jeffrey P. Mozena, Mark Falb, Timothy J. Conlon, and Dr. Randy Lengeling
Interesting fact about the Photographer: Curtis invented the “Curt – tone” printing technique. In this process, Curtis would print a positive image, such as this one, onto a sheet of glass which contained a combination of banana oil and gold on the back. The result was a rich, sepia-golden photograph. (from: Makepeace, Anne. Edward S. Curtis Coming to Light. Washington D.C.: National Geographic, 2002. Print.)
