DuMA and Heritage Works partner to present a series of walking tours of Dubuque architecture that will provide insights into Dubuque’s historic buildings.
Ale and Architecture consists of 90-120 minute walking tours of bars in the historic upper and lower Main Streets. Patrons will make 2-3 stops in bars along the route and can purchase their own drinks at each stop.
This evening walking tour will look at the urban renewal impact on Dubuque’s Main Street, this tour will begin at 6:00pm in the Riverboat Lounge.

Celebrate the work of young Dubuque artists in kindergarten through 8th grade.
Art work will be displayed March 25 – April 14.
Family and guardians of the young artists may see the student work without purchasing museum admission, simply mention you are here to see the K-8 exhibit to the front desk attendant.

Maroons were Africans and their descendants in the Americas who formed settlements away from New World chattel slavery. Some had escaped from plantations, but others had always been free, like those born among them in freedom.

Speaker Dr. Mary Gitau, Assistant Professor of Social Work at Clarke University, presents a talk on “Hidden Figures” and the individuals that inspired the film.
“Hidden Figures” is based on a true story of three female African American Mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. They faced discrimination and institutional racism as they tried to build a career in a male-dominated workplace. Regardless, they were some of the brains behind one of the greatest operation in history—the launch of astronaut, John Glenn into the orbit.

A Brief History of Civil Rights
African-Americans and whites were the founders of the NAACP in 1909. The presentation addresses the history of the organization including contemporary social concerns related to economics, education, education, health, public safety and criminal justice, and voting rights.

The Dubuque Museum of Art, in partnership with the City of Dubuque’s Art in the Park initiative and Winterfun, Inc., hosts the Winter Arts In The Park – 2019 Snow Sculpting Competition January 26, 2019 in Washington Park in Downtown Dubuque.
Come to see pro & student teams battle it out for People’s Choice and Best in Snow. You can vote for your favorite team from 12 pm to 3:30 pm. Announcement of the winners will be made at 3:45 pm. Everyone is also invited to try their hand at snow sculpting in the community/family area. Materials and tools will be available on site.
Snow Sculpting teams can be observed creating their outdoor masterpieces beginning January 23rd up until the celebration on the 26th.
